Twitter is a mass communication tool similar to a blog. Twitter users select other twitter members to follow. When they follow those users they are able to read everything they post. These posts are call tweets. The tweets are the tool that twitter users utilize to communicate with each other. The best way to think of a tweet is like an IM that goes out to thousands of people.
Twitter is a great way for people with similar interests to communicate. The best way for people of similar interests to find each other is through Twitter directories. There are several major twitter directories. A twitter directory is a central source where a user can search by category to find twitter users to follow. Click on the category of interest within the twitter directory and read the user profiles to decide who is interesting. To follow that person look them up in your twitter account and follow them. To find the top twitter directories simply go to the Yahoo search engine and do a search for “Twitter directories”.
It is proper etiquette when a user follows someone for that person to follow them back. The best way to build up a personal following is to follow others. Typically when you follow someone you can count on that person following you back. There are some users on Twitter that do not follow very many people. If you are trying to build up your following try to stay away from these Twitter snobs.
The beauty of twitter is the ability to communicate your thoughts and desires to large numbers of people with similar interests. Twitter is a very efficient mass communication tool similar to a blog. Some people keep small networks but by design Twitter is meant for much more that that. Twitter is a communication tool that connects millions of people so they can spread important messages and learn about news almost as it happens. Nice article brett .., Ya twitter is Cool
Great article and im a follower of yours on twitter.
Though I agree with you in good manners when twitting and following those who follow seems to be part of the whole game…sometimes the tree does not let you see the bush…and there is also some amount of rejectable junk or directly SPAM you do not want to be identified with…I trend to pay a visit and decide to follow or not. In your case, you have a follower. I find very interesting your work here…could not open RSS though. Keep up the good job!
Good article, but could you please write how to use Twitter as a marketing tool.
Nice summary of Twitter’s structure and user experience, Brett. One thing I have noticed some advertisers do well is to use Twitter in coordination with “The Event,” generating quick, high energy conversations around specific topics that gain momentum very quickly. Think of the hype created on Twitter for “Paranormal Activity.”
Very good summary about Twitter. I do follow you on twitter too.
Hi Brett
I love your site. I didn’t go over everything, but I think the content is great. The site is crystal clear, and easy to read and understand. I have two blog sites and a ecommerce store. Take a look at the store, and tell me what you think. Keep in mind, I am still working on it.
Thanks for the follow on Twitter! I’m new to the SMO/SMM arena; it’s good to have access to people who know a thing or two.
